28th Annual Perkins Pond Cookout!

In July 2025, Christine, Carson, Maddi, Sammy, and I headed north to Sunapee, New Hampshire for the 28th Annual Priest, Nestler, Myers, and Smith - Perkins Pond Cookout.

This year felt especially meaningful with some new and returning faces. We were thrilled to welcome back Sammy’s parents, Matthew and Jennifer, along with first timers his brother Andrew and grandmother Fets, who made their first trip to the pond. Even better, Nico Nestler, now serving in the Navy, joined us for the first time in five years and brought along his lady friend, Tiffany, from Virginia.

Of course, our long-time crew of regulars was there too: Nana, Papa, Justin, Susan, Sarah, Christian, Alexis, Dundee, Linda, Cliff, Leeanne, Marlene, Carolyn, Ron, Celia, Tim, and so many more. Every familiar face makes the weekend feel like home. Check out Long Weekend Video:

A Packed Weekend of Traditions

As always, we managed to pack an incredible amount into just a few short days:

  • Squeezed in a Thursday morning hike to kick things off in the fresh New Hampshire air

  • Thursday night BBQ, easing into the weekend with good food and laughter

  • Friday lobster bake, complete with with all you can eat Lobster and family storytelling

  • Annual Mile Swim across Perkins Pond and back – a true test of endurance and tradition

  • The Big Cookout, the centerpiece event with everyone together lakeside

  • Island trips and a Westside Bar stop, keeping the fun rolling right to the end

Family Effort & Hospitality

We rented the house again next door to my parents, Nana and Papa, which makes it easier than ever to host and spread out. And as always, my amazing brother, Uncle Tim went above and beyond – from manning the grills to setting up camp, he did a little bit of everything to make the weekend smooth and memorable.

What Makes It Special

The Perkins Pond Cookout is about more than food, games, or swimming – it’s about watching generations gather, new friendships being made, and traditions carried forward. From lobsters to late-night laughs, from new guests like Fets and Tiffany to old staples like Nana and Papa, each year adds another layer to the story of this family tradition.

Here’s to 28 years strong – and counting!
