Thursday, February 7th, 2008: CRM / SFA

"CloserQ, I understand that managing my prospects is critical to my long-term sales success. However, I am not sure how to measure and track the progress of my prospects. Can you offer some advice in this area?" - Steve

Steve customer relationship management (CRM) and sales force automation (SFA) is your answer. There a hundreds of vendors of selling CRM/SFA solutions: vendor list from CRM Buyer. I am going to assume you are working at a smaller company or you are an independent sales rep. Most large companies have some kind of CRM solutions for tracking sales people and forecasts. I personally have used ACT, goldmine, Oracle, and I am currently using salesforce.com.

I am a huge believer in using CRM for both the sales person and the sales manager. As a sales person, you can use the software for daily prospecting activities, keeping notes, tracking your forecasts, proposal creation, and managing your schedule. If you are on road or an independent rep I would recommend a desktop CRM like ACT. If you are in the office or have multiple reps working together I would recommend salesforece.com. Either way, you have lots options at lots of price points.

I welcome more questions on maximizing your CRM.

Steve , good selling!
