"Shaun, having a small publisher how are you using 2.0 to market your novel?", Matt P.
As a first time author with a smaller publisher, I have put together a marketing plan to increase the sales of my novel. The plan includes the traditional Marketing1.0 of contacting family / friends and cold calling newspapers, etc.; however the majority of my plan is Marketing2.0 of blogs, twitter, google keywords, etc. Below is an outline of my marketing plan broken down by 1.0 and 2.0:
Book Marketing 1.0:
o Contact Family and Friends
· Book Clubs
o Write Press Release
o Contact Traditional Media to Review Book
· Newspapers
· Radio
o Put together Business Cards

Book Marketing 2.0:
o Purchase Google Key Words
o Write Blog
· Mine is obviously this weekly business blog, http://www.closerq.com/
o Contact Bloggers to write reviews of your book
· I contacted a wide range of topical bloggers who could blog on my book
· Regional: Massachusetts; Nevada, Georgia
· Business and Sales Blogs
· Gambling Blogs
· Book Review Blogs
· Sports Blogs
o Set-up Social Media
· Twitter: http://twitter.com/closerq
· Linkedin: http://www.linkedin.com/in/shaunpriest
· Blog: http://www.closerq.com/
o Set up my own website and URL: http://www.shaunpriest.com/
· Register my URL with search engines
o Sell Book on Amazon.com
Book Marketing 3.0:
o Have Patience
o Stay focused
o Work Hard

As you can see there is a lot to promoting your book. Writing a book is hard and requires focused efforts, promoting your book is hard and requires focused efforts. Additionally, you will need patience and consistency, because the process takes time. There is a lag between the time someone buys your book to when they actually read your book, then recommend to others. After receiving a copy of my novel, it took a gambling blog a full six months to finally blog a positive review of ‘Decisions’. When you get frustrated, stay positive and use that energy to work even harder to increase the sales of your book sales.
