Christine and I took our annual European trip for the first time in the Spring! We drove over 1,100 miles from Stuttgart, Germany to Barcelona, Spain with stops in France (Strasbourg, Riquewihr, Colmar, Lyons, Aix-en Provence, Cassis, and Marseille) and Switzerland (Basel and Zurich). For a distance reference, Atlanta to Toronto is a shorter drive. Check out our Pics from four countries and eleven cities!
Our Drive!
On our Delta flight!
Stuttgart, Germany (5/6)
We flew directly from Atlanta into Stuttgart to start our
adventure. We spent the first day taking
in the sites for Stuttgart, Germany’s technology city.

We did have two minors snafus in Stuttgart, the first was we needed help from a very nice Italian to find our rental car; second our hotel fire alarm went off twice after midnight, see pic:
Strasbourg, France (5/7)
On our trip was amazing, if I had to pick one favorite spot, I would pick Strasbourg, with the canal, history, and climbing to the top of the 1000-year-old Cathedral!
Riquewihr, France (5/8)
This was Christine’s favorite city, because an actual medieval village with the three town wells, colorful buildings, cats, and cobblestone streets.
Colmar, France (5/8)
Another gorgeous French city with a canal and cathedral!
Basel, Switzerland (5/8)
This was an unscheduled and fantastic stop, as when Christine saw the hometown of Roger Federer, we had to stop. I loved our crossing of the Rhine River, on a boat with no engine, simply using the current and tied to a wire!
Zurich, Switzerland (5/8 & 9)
We went to Geneva 18 years ago, for a business trip, and we loved Switzerland. So, this time we visited Zurich, and Zurich did not disappoint! We did a Lake Zurich boat tour and walked over 6 miles!
Lyon, France (5/10)
With a wonderful unscheduled stop in Basel, we decided to do a second unplanned city visit with Lyon. We hiked to the top of the city and saw the mini-Eifel Tower!
Aix-en Provence, (5/10&11)
Christine wanted to visited the Provence Area with so many villages and we choose Aix-en Provence as our home base with stops in Cassis and Marseille.
Cassis, France (5/11)
Cassis a high-end seaside village! Plus, I got to put my feet in the Mediterranean Ocean!
Marseille, France (5/11)
Marseille is a seaside city with so much to visit, sea port, cathedrals, shopping, and amazing views. We took the tourist train to the Notre Dame Cathedral overlooking the city:
Barcelona, Spain (5/12, 13 & 14)
We really enjoyed the city, especially, unfinished Cathedral Sagrada Familia. We stayed in the Gothic area, walked the harbor, did a bus tour of the whole city, including stopping at Parc Guiel!
